Your Inner Kitchen

Today, kitchens are so much more than the traditional cooking and preparing spaces that we knew in the past.

They are the social center of our homes and are increasingly becoming personal expressions of our lifestyles rather than the utilitarian spaces they once were. The weekend chef, the working couple, and the single person all want the same thing: customization and personalization.

SieMatic Kitchens and Sustainability

SieMatic is one of the leading cabinet manufactures in the world, and Binns is very proud to offer such an exclusive product to our clients. SieMatic takes their environmental responsibility very serious and we believe you should know what they are doing about sustainability, and the environmental and health criteria concerning furniture and kitchen cabinets.

SieMatic Möbelwerke is located in the agricultural and forested area of East Westphalia in northern Germany, an area that has a long tradition of sustainability of resources. The regional East Westphalia newspaper [Lippstädtische Bürgerblatt] cited as early as 1785 that lumber was becoming scarce and expensive because too much was used for construction. Seeing the natural resources dwindling, the Government decreed that no more trees are to be felled then are reforested. In those days, the Government position of “Förster” [Forester] was created to watch over the sustainability of the German Forests - and still today one can not just cut a tree for firewood - not even in one’s own backyard - but needs to get official permission from the “Förster” to do so. Due to that threat of depletion of forest resources in the region it was realized very early that “sustainability” is not just a concept of nature, but also of economics: man has to protect and manage resources to sustain resources! Thus was born the philosophy of sustainability. In 1961 Willy Brand, later the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, ran the first political campaign on the theme of Environmental Pollution [Umweltverschmutzung]; in 1969 the term “Environmental Protection” [Umweltschutz] was first coined by German officials.

Pope Benedict XVI and his New SieMatic SC 15 Kitchen!

Pope Benedict XVI has recently been having his meals prepared for him in a sand-coloured SieMatic SC 15 kitchen. The previous kitchen served the Pope’s private household well for over 30 years; therefore the new purchase for the Apostolic Palace had to be another high-quality product. Based on these considerations, the Holy Father chose SieMatic, a brand manufacturer whose products are not only distinguished by their good design but also their durability of many years, practical equipment details and easiness to clean.

The new fitted kitchen is spacious and custom-made, with an easily cleaned plastic surface finish, and furnished with an innovative, 8-cm thick StoneDesign granite worktop. In consultation with the Assistant Prefect of the Papal Household, Monsignore Georg Gänswein, the planning details were clarified by SieMatic’s Reseller partner in Rome, Mr Claudio Venanzi, and perfectly tailored to the needs of the Holy Father’s household.
